Initially celebrated by the simple exchange of cards, the United States Congress, in 1935, proclaimed the first Sunday of August as the National Friendship Day. It was in 1958 that Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho started a foundation called The World Friendship Crusade. After decades of trying to convince them, in 2011, the UN finally recognized the 30th of July as International Friendship Day.
